Hi! I’m Caroline from the band Safety Net and I wanted to share a recipe for one of my favorite holiday treats. My mom has been making these chocolate-dipped mint meltaways every year for Christmas for as long as I can remember. She got it from a magazine about 20 years ago and it’s been a holiday staple in my house ever since!

Chocolate-Dipped Mint Meltaways

Ingredients:

- 18 starlight peppermints

- vanilla flavored milk morsels (12 oz bag)

- 3 tbsp vegetable shortening

- semi-sweet chocolate chips (12 oz bag)

Instructions:

1) Crush 18 starlight mints in a freezer bag with a meat pounder.

2) Melt one 12oz bag of vanilla flavored milk morsels with 2 TBSP vegetable shortening on medium high for 1-2 minutes in the microwave, checking progress at 30-second intervals.

3) Stir in crushed mints.

4) Drop mixture by spoonfuls onto a baking sheet lined with wax paper.

5) Refrigerate for about 30 minutes until the patties have hardened.

6) Melt about ¾ to 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips in the microwave with 1 TBSP of vegetable shortening.

7) Dip the peppermint patties into the melted chocolate so that about half of the patty is evenly covered, then place the patty back onto the wax-lined baking sheet.

8) Cool patties in the fridge for at least one hour.

The recipe makes about 15-20 meltaways!
