A Day in the Life: Social Distancing with Kailey Nicole

by - May 19, 2020

No two days of this shelter in place have looked the same to me. My biggest focus during this time has been my health above all else.

I’m grateful to be home and spending time with my family as well as myself. Although quarantine has been difficult for everyone for a myriad of reasons, I’ve tried to keep myself adjusted on the positives. There is something wonderful about being forced to spend time with yourself. We don’t get to do it very often and who knows when we’ll be able to do it again.

I would most certainly consider myself an extrovert, but I was homeschooled from fourth grade until college so if anyone knows a thing or two about being your own best friend, it’s me! I’ve spent a lot of moments reminding myself that this is not a productivity contest and I hope that we can all remember that. I’ve caught myself getting anxious about all the things I’m not doing, or the languages I’m not learning, or the new instrument I’m not playing during this time. If that’s you too, take this as your reminder from a stranger that you are doing your very best and that’s what matters.

I’d be lying if I said that I was writing like a maniac at this time. Some days I enjoy sitting down to write and other days I’m stuck staring at the pages for hours. Hitting a creative plateau is nothing new and I find it to be a great time to focus on some of the other reasons I love being a musician. I love studying the voice, I love entrepreneurship and I love music business. But the highlight of my time in quarantine has been welcoming my new dog, Bennie, to our family! It’s been the perfect time to acquaint him and get him adjusted to being in his new home.

I have to say, Bennie is one of the sassiest dogs I’ve ever seen and he is definitely giving me a run for my money (in the best way possible!). He gets the sass from me; I didn’t mean to but I can definitely see I’ve passed it along. He’s best friends with my other dog, Baxter, so watching the two of them play is keeping me more than entertained. I love animals and if you’re thinking of fostering or adopting during this time - do it, it’s the perfect time to bring a new pal home!
