Gather 'round the open fire for Chimneyside Chats - a monthly feature with holiday stories from our favorite artists. See what's in their stockings this year as they reminisce on Christmas memories, share their favorite recipe and more! Here's what musician, comedian and actor Grey DeLisle had to say:

One of my favorite Christmas memories is of my grandma, Eva Flores. She raised me on her own with a low-paying job in a factory so we only got one special present each year. When I was 10 years old, I knew that she had something special for me on layaway at K-Mart. She did a great job keeping it a secret and sent me to the other side of the store so she could pay a little on it each week when she got her check. It was the stereo turntable I had been asking for all year (I guess I’ve been a vinyl fan since I was a kid!).

I remember she kept it quiet all the way up to Christmas Eve. We had just finished our Spam and cranberry sauce (not a typo!!!) and we were about to exchange gifts. I made her a little Santa out of clay and she handed me a giant, heavy box. Then she said, “Mija...I really wanted to get you a nice down pillow too..but they were SO EXPENSIVE! ALMOST AS MUCH AS YOUR STEREO!” She was MORTIFIED! Ha! We giggled about it all through midnight Mass. Incidentally that was the Mass where I first heard the song “O Holy Night”, which later became my favorite Christmas song. I hope Abuelita is proud of my version.
