Gather 'round the open fire for Chimneyside Chats - a monthly feature with holiday stories from our favorite artists. See what's in their stockings this year as they reminisce on Christmas memories, share their favorite recipe and more! Here's what songwriter Jeffrey James had to say:

Back in February of this year, my dad asked if I would make a Christmas EP for my mom that he could give her as a present. Till this year, the only other Christmas song I had recorded was one I wrote. And that was years ago.

I’m generally of the opinion that Christmas songs are all overdone. At the end of the day, even the coolest of kids just want to listen to Bing Crosby, Michael Buble and/or Mariah Carey sing during the holidays. However, my dad rarely asks for personal favors and I knew it would mean the world to him and my mom. So my compromise was that I got to pick the songs and the style.

I’m a sucker for coffee shop/moody covers, so that’s what I made; A chill Christmas EP of cover songs to listen to while drinking your first cup of coffee in the morning or your last glass of wine before bed. Luckily, my dad also loved the idea of sharing this music with the world. So while my parents and I have only two vinyl copies, everyone else can stream these songs as much as they want. Or at least… till Christmas is over. And now that I think about it, I suspect this project was my dad's not-so-subtle way of forcing me to record some holiday music!
