Gather 'round the open fire for Chimneyside Chats - a monthly feature with holiday stories from our favorite artists. See what's in their stockings this year as they reminisce on Christmas memories, share their favorite recipe and more! Here's what A Permanent Shadow vocalist CP Fletcher had to say:

I live in Barcelona, but I was born and raised in snowy Austria. With my family, we used to celebrate Christmas big time with ceiling-high Christmas trees and the full shebang. And lots and lots of gifts.

As I got into music at a very early age, my Christmas gift of choice would be vinyl records. But not any records you could buy in a shop, mind. I developed a predilection for bootlegs from a very young age, so with my mother we would settle on a budget and roam the record fairs in and around Vienna for bootleg recordings by Bowie, Iggy, Lou Reed and the like.

Needless to say, there were always more records in my pile than the original budget would allow, but luckily Mom very generously would extend the expense limit. I still keep and cherish those records, my absolute favourite being Lou Reed Live In Milan 1989, a total blinder of an audience recording. It really feels like you were among the crowd when you listen to it on headphones.

I still prefer a good live recording over any studio album and only recently bought The The’s The Comeback Special and have been spinning it for weeks.
