10 Years Later: The Playlist

Black is the New AP Style officially turned 10 on October 4, and we're celebrating with an official playlist! All year we have been sharing the stories of those who have impacted Black is the New AP Style, as well as those celebrating a decade of their own accomplishments. Check out the playlist below and why each song was chosen by our featured guests.


"The Outfield" by Good Charlotte, submitted by Molly Hudelson


When Molly created the feature The Time I Cried At A Show for her publication, Circles & Soundwaves, her first piece was written about the time she cried at a Good Charlotte show. Read more about how Black is the New AP Style acquired The Time I Cried At A Show here.


"My Heart's Always Yours" by Arkells, submitted by Angela Tyler


Released in 2016, this was the song Angela walked down the aisle to when she got married. Read the history of Angela's company, Muddy Paw PR, and Black is the New AP Style here. 


"Laurel Canyon" by Roses and Cigarettes, submitted by Jerry Milani


The duo, consisting of the late Jenny Pagliaro and Jerry's friend Angela Petrilli, submitted this song for NPR's Tiny Desk Contest in 2016. Read how Black is the New AP Style has been working with Jerry since its inception here.


"Stand Tall" by VOILÀ


When Black is the New AP Style and VOILÀ met in 2018, "Stand Tall" was one of three songs they had just released. Read more about their musical evolution here.


"Youth" by Glass Animals, submitted by Ariel Kassulke


Their entire 2016 album, How To Be A Human Being, is one of Ariel's favorites. Her photography has been featured on Black is the New AP Style since its inception, and her work can be found here.


"Closer" by The Chainsmokers, submitted by Billy Watson


According to Billy, this song has gone 10x platinum in his home office. His photography has been featured on Black is the New AP Style since 2021, and his work can be found here.


"Give a Little" by Featurette


After their debut album in 2016, our friendship with Featurette became something beyond a one sentence summary. Read their anniversary feature here.


"Madman in the Band Van" by Goblet


After playing the first iteration of RPM Fest, Goblet has played every festival since. Read our feature about the history of the festival here.


"Red Queen Hypothesis" by Western Massacre


Another band who played the first year of RPM Fest, Western Massacre returned to the stage this year for their 10th festival. Read our feature about the history of the festival, featuring Western Massacre and Goblet, here.


"Fresh Eyes" by Andy Grammer, submitted by Katherine Forbes


After starting Designing the Row in 2016, Katherine Forbes took a look at her business with fresh eyes and developed an internationally trusted Squarespace design agency and educational platform. Celebrate both of our anniversaries by reading her feature here. 


"CAN'T STOP THE FEELING!" by Justin Timberlake, submitted by Kate Moore


The song from the Trolls soundtrack debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart in May 2016, just one month before the release of The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women. Stay tuned for our interview with Kate!


"Repeat" by Young The Giant, submitted by Emily Gil
