Gather 'round the open fire for Chimneyside Chats - a monthly feature with holiday stories from our favorite artists. See what's in their stockings this year as they reminisce on Christmas memories, share their favorite recipe and more! Here's what Slowey and the Boats band leader Isaac Stanford had to say:

We recently released a cover of Donny Hathaway’s iconic holiday song, “This Christmas", which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Our label, Hi-Tide Recordings, partnered with Donny’s publisher, Primary Wave, and they were fans of our other Christmas music so they asked if the band could do a version of “This Christmas”. I’ve always loved that song. Since everyone was stuck at home quarantining, I just started working on the recording myself at home. We did some percussion overdubs in the studio later, so this song is our first release that wasn’t recorded with a band live in a room.

I feel very blessed this year to have the support of Hi-Tide. Having them release our Christmas LP, Merry Christmas from Slowey and The Boats, this year really has been a great gift. It’s given the band some momentum during these past months when all our gigs have been cancelled. My friends and I usually get together this time of year and try and play as many Christmas songs as we can think of. Being able to play this album and share it with others during this holiday season means a lot.
